Wisconsin Engineering

Precision Concrete Slipform Paving

Southeast Wisconsin's climate is brutal on concrete infrastructure. We build for the extreme.

Why Standard Curbs Fail

It happens every spring. The snow melts, the rain pours, and temperatures violently swing above and below freezing. If a curb and gutter system lacks the proper sub-base compaction or wasn't poured with the right air-entrained mix, water infiltrates the micro-cracks. When that water freezes, it expands, causing the curb to heave, crack, and ultimately crumble.

"Furthermore, poor grading leads to standing water—often called 'birdbaths'—which not only degrades the adjacent asphalt but creates massive slip-and-fall liabilities in retail parking lots during winter."

The Trinity Advantage

Precision concrete curb extrusion in Southeast Wisconsin

To prevent these failures, Trinity Construction doesn't just "pour concrete." We engineer the pour. Our Miller Formless slipform machines handle every continuous curb and gutter project — extruding concrete into a consistent profile along a digitally guided stringline.

Engineered Benefits

  • Flawless Drainage

The automated sensors guarantee that the slope and flow-line are mathematically perfect, eliminating standing water.

  • Superior Compaction

The internal vibrators consolidate the concrete much denser than hand-pouring, resulting in a significantly stronger final product.

  • Rapid Project Completion

We can pour thousands of linear feet per day, keeping your paving schedule aggressively on track.

Core Offerings

Commercial Capability

Whether you are breaking ground on a new subdivision or retrofitting a retail center, our crews handle high-volume demands with ease.

Parking Lot Islands and Perimeters

The curbs in commercial parking lots take a beating from delivery trucks, snowplows, and daily traffic. We pour high-strength, barrier-style and mountable curbs that define your traffic flow while protecting your landscaping and pedestrian zones. For tight radii and complex landscape islands where the slipform machine can't fit, our expert finishers seamlessly hand-form the curves to match the machine-extruded straightaways flawlessly.

Subdivision and Municipal Roadways

For residential developer projects and municipal road expansions, we provide continuous roll curbs or standard barrier curbs that meet exact DOT and local municipal specifications. Our ability to mobilize quickly and pour massive stretches of curb efficiently makes us a preferred partner for large land developers in Lake Country and Racine.

Catch Basins and Integrated Drainage

A curb is only as good as the catch basin it flows into. Our crews expertly frame and pour the collars and transitions around storm sewer inlets, ensuring completely seamless integration that aggressively channels stormwater off your lot and into the municipal system.

Installation Process

When Trinity Construction is on your site, here is exactly what you can expect.

01

Laser-Precision Subgrade Preparation

We excavate the trench, install the required traffic bond (crushed aggregate), and compact it to strict density requirements. We then run a laser-guided grader to verify the sub-base is perfectly pitched.

A curb is only as strong as what's underneath it.

02

Automated Slipform Extrusion

Our crew sets the stringline using GPS/Total Station data. The Miller Formless machine follows this line, violently vibrating the low-slump, air-entrained concrete mix and extruding it into the flawless profile required by your engineering plans.

03

Curing and Joint Control

Within the critical curing window, our finishers apply membrane curing compounds to prevent rapid moisture loss. We then cut control joints at spec intervals to direct the natural expansion and contraction of the concrete.

04

Quality Assurance and Site Cleanup

Before we demobilize, our owner, Jerry Breske, or a senior foreman walks the entire poured length. We check the flow lines, verify the finish quality, and ensure the site is left cleaner than we found it — ready for your asphalt or landscaping crews.

Technical Standards

We don't guess; we engineer. Here are the baseline standards we bring to every commercial site.

SpecificationTrinity StandardWhy It Matters
Mix StrengthMin. 4,000 – 4,500 PSIResists heavy commercial impacts and snowplow damage.
Air Entrainment5% – 7%Creates microscopic bubbles to allow water expansion during freezes, preventing spalling.
Base MaterialMin. 6" Compacted AggregatePrevents frost heaving and provides a stable, draining foundation.
Joint SpacingEvery 10 linear feetControls cracking and accommodates seasonal temperature swings.

Expected Costs
& Timelines

Cost and time are the two biggest variables in commercial construction. In the Greater Milwaukee area, pricing is calculated per linear foot. Factors that influence the final price include:

  • Total VolumeLarger projects benefit from economies of scale.
  • Profile TypeStandard mountable vs. tall barrier curbs.
  • Site PrepExcavation and sub-grade correction requirements.
  • Radii ComplexityHand-forming vs. automated slipform runs.

Timelines

With our automated equipment, a standard retail parking lot perimeter or subdivision roadway can often be poured in just a few days. However, we always require a minimum 7-day cure window.

Days 1–2

Site prep, excavation, laser-graded aggregate compaction.

Day 3+

Automated slipform pour — thousands of linear feet per day.

Days 4–7

Curing compound application and control joint cutting.

Day 7+

Minimum cure window before adjacent heavy machinery access.

Day 28

Full 4,000–4,500 PSI design strength reached.

Common Questions

How long does a concrete curb take to cure?

While the concrete achieves its initial "set" within 24 to 48 hours, it takes a full 28 days to reach its maximum PSI strength. We recommend keeping heavy equipment away from the edges for at least 7 days.

Is extruded concrete better than hand-formed?

For long runs, absolutely. Slipform (extruded) concrete uses a lower-slump (drier) mix that is heavily vibrated, resulting in a denser, stronger concrete product with a perfectly uniform aesthetic that is virtually impossible to replicate by hand over long distances.

Do you handle the excavation and base grading?

Yes. Trinity Construction is fully equipped to handle the trenching, aggregate placement, and fine grading required before the concrete is poured.

What happens if it rains after you pour my curbs?

We closely monitor localized weather patterns in Southeast Wisconsin. If rain is unexpected, we carry specialized protective plastic sheeting to cover freshly poured concrete, protecting the finish from pitting until it cures enough to withstand the moisture.

Can you match the curb profile of my existing parking lot for an addition?

Yes. Our slipform machines use interchangeable "mules" (the steel molds that shape the concrete), and we can adjust our hand-forming techniques to match almost any existing municipal or private profile.

Are you licensed and insured for commercial work in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties?

Yes, Trinity Construction Company carries comprehensive liability and worker's compensation insurance that meets or exceeds the requirements of all major commercial developers and municipalities in the region.
